    What is the Vesica Piscis?

    posted in Uncategorized

The crucible of the creating process.

An opening to the womb from which all geometric forms are born.

A symbol of the fusion of opposites and a passageway through the world’s apparent polarities.

The geometric image through which light was born.

The geometry is found throughout all existence, and is hidden in plain sight…

The Vesica Pisces is easily one of the most profound geometrical images of ancient and modern times.  It is, for example, considered to be an integral part of the Ark of the Covenant.

Essentially the intersection of two, overlapping spheres, the Vesica Pisces (including the interior portion of it, and/or the more common two dimensional version) represents, among other things:

    1)  The joining of male and female essence to create offspring,

    2)  A symbol for ‘Hieros Ixthis’ (Sacred Fish, or Jesus),

    3)  In art and architecture, a pointed oval used as an aureole,

    4)  The female birth canal, or vagina,

    5)  The basic motif in the Flower of Life,

    6)  An overlay of the Tree of Life,

    7)  The generative power of polygons,

    8)  A geometrical description of square roots and harmonic proportions,

    7)  A source of rebirth and regeneration.
